IMPROVISATION, NEW MUSIC, LOOP PEDAL AND EFFECTS

" To me, making music is just painting with sound". - Kathryn Patricia

Violist, Composer and Educator's core principles of teaching is inquiry-based learning--holding space for students to learn through discovery.

As a live improviser, composer, and lover of new music which serve as the 'cornerstone' of her music pedagogy:

Improvisation:

As a certified teacher-trainer in the Creative Ability Development method created by Alice Kanack.  Improvisation exploration is a great avenue in helping students to finds and hone their artistic voice.  Improvisation practices will be a core part of lessons to help students to develop their music creativity.

A Focus on Music By New Music:

Along with repertoire supplemented by the canon,  students will focus on studying music by modern/new music composers.  As an avid composer and viola who performs with loop and effect pedals,  students will have the opportunity to explore the use of the loop pedal along with composing their own music.
